Sati Pasala or How to Practice Mindfulness

Sati Pasala Bundoora, Australia – December 2019

Sati Pasala Bundoora held sixteenth session at Nick Ascenzo Community Centre, 2 Boronia Avenue, Thomastown, 3074 VIC, Australia on Sunday the 8th December 2019 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.
Altogether 14 children participated in the session and the majority of them were 12 years and under.

  • Understanding Mindfulness (S1):  The topic of the session was on how to become a mindful observer. As an opening a mindful activity on picking up the odd object among exactly similar objects was done. This was followed by a discussion emphasizing the importance of observing things via the five senses right here and right now and the advantages of doing that in daily life. A video clip was played to clarify the difference between ‘observing’ and ‘inferring’. Most of the children understood the concept straightaway. To conclude the discussion, this was linked to mindfulness practice and how we can become an observer in formal (waking and sitting) and informal (doing day to day activities) mindfulness practice
  • Guided Practice (S2):  Mindful walking and sitting was practiced indoors.
  • Mindful game (S3):  Mindful activity ‘Scavenger Hunt’ was done outside where children were given a list of different things (of different shape, texture, colour, size) to look for and write down what they found.
  • Reporting experiences (S4):  Children’s experience on mindful walking, mindful sitting and mindful game was brought up in a short group discussion.
