Sati Pasala or How to Practice Mindfulness

Sati Pasala Bundoora held the ninth session at Nick Ascenzo Community Centre, 2 Boronia Avenue, Thomastown, 3074 VIC, Australia on Sunday the 9th June 2019 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.

Altogether 30 children attended on the day and the following segments covered during the session.

  • Understanding Mindfulness (S1): A discussion initiated to introduce ‘How to Face Boredom’ by asking questions from the group. This was further demonstrated by a short video clip and a live demonstration in which it was elaborated that how individuals alternate using six sense doors to get rid of boredom. It was highlighted that the boredom is another mental factor which arises within and how mindfulness helps to identify boredom and to avoid the consequences of it.
  • Guided Practice (S2): Mindful walking and mindful sitting was practiced inside the hall.
  • Mindful Activity (S3): The mindful activity ‘Ping Pong in a Cup’ was introduced. Children’s experience was shared in a group discussion.
  • Reporting experiences (S4): Children’s experience on mindful walking and mindful sitting were discussed in small groups followed with instructions provided on how to improve their practice on an almost individual basis.
