Sati Pasala or How to Practice Mindfulness

Humble Beginnings: The Sati Pasela Story

Since the latter part of last year Monday afternoons at Nissarana Vanaya forest monastery have been special. Groups of young students from schools in Mitirigala gathered after school to learn the practice of mindfulness. Slowly, mindfully, silently these young children accompanied by a few parents were introduced to the practice of walking and sitting mindfully. After every session, students related their experiences and pledged to continue the practice at home when doing their daily chores with their families.

After nearly 6-8 months, on the 18th of July the architect of the program, Venerable Dhammajiva invited the monks from the monastery and other devotees to watch how the program is conducted. The feedback from students was exceptionally rewarding.

These were the humble beginnings of Sati Pasela, now a steadily evolving program with an out-reach that is expanding, within and outside Sri Lanka.
