Sati Pasala or How to Practice Mindfulness

Sati Pasala programme held at YMBA building, Daulagala

The above programme was held on Sunday, 20th August 2017 at the YMBA building at Daulagala off Pilimatalawa, from 8.30 am to 1.00 pm. The participants consisted of about 85 children of varying ages and 165 adults. This event was organized by Mr. Sena Rathnasiri.
The programme was conducted effectively by a group of Sati Pasala facilitators
The programme commenced from 8.30 am to 10.00 am in the main hall, as a ‘common session’ for both groups. The programme commenced with the introduction of the concept of ‘Sati Pasla’ followed by a session on mindfulness. After the morning tea break from 10.30 am to 12.00 noon, a separate session was held in an adjacent building only for the children. During this session the importance of ‘Sati’ was communicated to the children through various interesting and thought provoking activities such as games, songs etc.
Parallel to this session a training was conducted for adults, in the main hall from 10.30 am to about 1.00 pm, going deeper into the subject of ‘sati’ with emphasis on the importance of regular practice & the need to incorporate mindfulness into one’s day to day activities. This was followed by a 15 minute session on sitting.
At the end of the session Ven. Haladivela Thilakadamma Thero of Daulagala Temple, expressed very encouraging remarks by describing this as a valuable session of sharing long term experience of the facilitators with the participants.
The members of YMBA, Daulagala generously arranged both tea and the mid-day meal for the all participants.
